High School Basketball Star
Anthony Duruji grew up in Germantown, Maryland. He played basketball at St. Andrew's Episcopal School. During his three years there, he scored over 1,000 points!
Anthony was also a very good triple jumper. He was even ranked nationally in that sport. But he decided to focus all his energy on basketball. In 2017, he showed off his amazing skills in the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk competition. He finished in second place. Many colleges near his home wanted him to play for them. But Anthony chose to go to Louisiana Tech because he liked their coaches.
College Journey
Playing for Louisiana Tech
When Anthony joined the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, he quickly became known for how athletic he was. He could jump high and move fast on the court. In his first year, he was chosen for the Conference USA All-Freshman team. This means he was one of the best new players in the conference. In his second year, he averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
Moving to Florida
After two years, Anthony transferred to the Florida Gators. When players transfer, they sometimes have to sit out a year. Anthony sat out the 2019–20 season. This gave him time to practice and get ready for his new team.
He became a very important player for the Gators. This was especially true after his teammate, Keyontae Johnson, had to stop playing early in the 2020–21 season. Anthony started 17 games that year. He averaged 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In the 2021–22 season, he played alongside Colin Castleton. He averaged 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. On April 1, 2022, Anthony decided to enter the 2022 NBA draft. This meant he would not play his final year of college basketball.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting with Greensboro Swarm
