Anthony Gonzalez (born September 18, 1984) is an American politician and a former professional football player. He is a member of the Republican Party. Since 2019, he has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 16th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. He was reelected in 2020. Before becoming a politician, Anthony Gonzalez played college football for Ohio State University. He also played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Indianapolis Colts.
Anthony Gonzalez's Football Journey
Anthony Gonzalez loved playing football. He played for Ohio State University when he was in college. In his last year there, he scored 8 touchdowns! After college, Anthony joined the Indianapolis Colts in the National Football League (NFL). In his second season, he got injured and couldn't play for eight weeks. Anthony and his team went to the Super Bowl in 2010, which is the championship game of the NFL. However, they did not win that game.
Becoming a Politician
After his football career, Anthony Gonzalez decided to enter politics. In 2018, he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives. This is a part of the U.S. government where elected officials represent people from different areas. Anthony ran as a Republican for Ohio's 16th congressional district. He won the election and became a U.S. Representative in 2019.
On January 13, 2021, Anthony Gonzalez made a big decision. He voted with nine other Republicans and all the Democrats in the House of Representatives. They voted to begin a process called impeachment against Donald Trump. Impeachment is when a government official is accused of serious wrongdoing.
