Anthony James Hederman (born August 11, 1921 – died January 10, 2014) was an important Irish judge and lawyer. He served as a judge in the Supreme Court from 1981 to 1993. Before that, he was the Attorney General of Ireland from 1977 to 1981.

Who Was Anthony Hederman?
Anthony James Hederman was born in Naas, County Kildare, Ireland. This was on August 11, 1921. He grew up to become a very respected person in Irish law. He held two very high positions in the legal system.
His Early Life and Education
Anthony Hederman went to Castleknock College in Dublin. This was a private school for boys. There, he met many people who would become important later in life. One of his schoolmates was Liam Cosgrave, who later became the Taoiseach (Ireland's Prime Minister).
After school, he studied at University College Dublin. He earned a special degree in law and political science. He was also a member of a political party called Fianna Fáil. For a time in the 1960s, he helped manage the party's money.
Becoming a Lawyer and Judge
Anthony Hederman became a lawyer in 1944. This means he was "called to the Bar." He mostly worked on cases for the Irish government.
In July 1977, he became the Attorney General of Ireland. This is the chief legal advisor to the government. He held this job until June 1981.
Then, in 1981, he was appointed as a judge. He joined the Supreme Court of Ireland. This is the highest court in Ireland. He served as a Supreme Court judge until 1993.
Later Career and Legacy
After his time on the Supreme Court, Anthony Hederman continued his work in law. He became the president of the Law Reform Commission. This group works to update and improve Ireland's laws.
Anthony Hederman passed away in 2014. To honor him, the Student Legal Service at UCD named their yearly moot court competition after him. A moot court is like a practice court case for law students.
