Anthony Jackson-Hamel's Soccer Journey
Starting Out in Soccer
Anthony Jackson-Hamel began his soccer journey with the Montreal Impact Academy in 2010. This academy is a special training program for young players. He played in the Canadian Soccer League's first division.
In his second season, he helped his team reach the playoffs. However, Montreal was knocked out in the first round by Capital City F.C.
He continued with the academy in 2012. That year, his team finished second in their division, earning another playoff spot. They won their first playoff game against Toronto FC's academy. In the next round, Anthony scored a goal against the York Region Shooters, which helped his team reach the championship final. In the final game, Montreal was defeated by Toronto Croatia.
In 2014, he played for the Montreal Impact U23 team. During this time, he scored 4 goals in 6 games.
Playing for the Montreal Impact
Anthony Jackson-Hamel signed his first professional contract with the Montreal Impact on August 1, 2014. This was a big step in his career. He made his first appearance for the team on August 2, 2014, coming into the game as a substitute.
He started his first Major League Soccer (MLS) game on September 13, 2014. In 2015, he was chosen to play in the Chipotle Homegrown Game, which features talented young players from MLS teams. Anthony scored his first goal for the Impact on March 13, 2016, in a 3–0 win against the New York Red Bulls.
In April 2017, there was some talk that he might leave the Impact. However, he ended up signing a new two-year deal. During the start of the 2017 season, Anthony scored 3 goals in just 37 minutes of play. This included a special backheel goal that won the game against Atlanta United FC, and two goals against the Philadelphia Union.
The 2018 season was a bit tougher for him. He only scored two goals, and his coach, Rémi Garde, considered trading him to another team. However, Anthony stayed with the Impact and helped them win the 2019 Canadian Championship in 2019. He also played in the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League in 2020. After seven seasons with the club, Anthony Jackson-Hamel left the Montreal Impact at the end of the 2020 season.
Time with FC Montreal
While playing for the Montreal Impact, Anthony also spent time with their reserve team, FC Montreal. This team played in the USL Championship. He played his first game for FC Montreal on April 25, 2015. On July 12, 2015, he scored his first two goals for the team against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
In 2016, he returned to the reserve squad because he had limited playing time with the main team. In this second season with FC Montreal, he scored 9 goals in 16 games, making him the team's top goal scorer.
Playing for Canada
Anthony Jackson-Hamel was born in Canada. His father is from the Dominican Republic, and his mother is from Quebec. He has played for Canada's national youth teams, including the team that played in the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
He was first called up to the senior Canada national team in October 2016. He made his debut for Canada on October 6, 2016, playing against Mauritania. Anthony scored his first goal for Canada on January 22, 2017, in a game against Bermuda. He was also chosen to represent Canada in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
