Anthony LaPaglia (born 31 January 1959) is a talented Australian actor. He has won many important awards for his acting. These include a Golden Globe Award for his role in the TV show Without a Trace, and a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his work on Broadway. He also won a Primetime Emmy Award for his funny role in the TV show Frasier. Anthony LaPaglia has starred in many movies, including Happy Feet and Annabelle: Creation.

Early Life and Learning

Anthony LaPaglia was born in Adelaide, South Australia. His mother was from the Netherlands, and his father came from Italy when he was 18. Anthony has two brothers. His younger brother, Jonathan LaPaglia, is also an actor.

When he was younger, Anthony worked as a shoe salesman. He wanted to be an actor, so he moved to the United States. There, he studied acting while still working. He had started acting classes in Adelaide when he was a teenager.

Acting Career

Anthony LaPaglia's first acting job was in a TV show called Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories in 1985. His first movie was Cold Steel in 1987. He then appeared in many films, often playing tough or serious characters.

Some of his early movie roles include Betsy's Wedding (1990), So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993), and Empire Records (1995). He also worked in Australian movies like The Custodian (1993).

Broadway and TV Success

In the late 1990s, Anthony LaPaglia became very successful on Broadway. He won a Tony Award for his role as Eddie Carbone in the play A View from the Bridge.

He also became well-known for his role as Simon Moon in the TV comedy Frasier. He appeared in eight episodes and won an Emmy Award for this part.

From 2002 to 2009, LaPaglia starred as Jack Malone in the popular American crime drama Without a Trace. In this show, he played the leader of a team that searches for missing people. He even helped write one episode of the series. For this role, he won a Golden Globe Award in 2004.

Australian and International Films

Anthony LaPaglia has often returned to Australia for movie roles. He starred in Australian films like Looking for Alibrandi (2000) and Lantana (2001). He also voiced characters in the animated movies Happy Feet (2006) and Happy Feet Two (2011).

In 2009, he played a real-life Australian journalist named Roger East in the movie Balibo. This film tells the story of journalists who went missing in East Timor in 1975.

More recently, LaPaglia has taken on more roles in Australia. He appeared in the movie Mental (2012) and the drama Holding the Man (2015). He also starred in Australian TV shows like The Code (2016) and Sunshine (2017).

In 2017, he played Vito Rizzuto in the Canadian TV series Bad Blood. He also starred in the series Riviera from 2017 to 2020. In 2023, he appeared in the Australian TV series The Black Hand, which explores Italian families in Queensland in the 1920s and 1930s. He also performed on stage in Australia for the first time, playing Willy Loman in the play Death of a Salesman.

Anthony LaPaglia lives in Santa Monica, California. He has said that he learned to speak with an American accent to help him get acting jobs when he first moved to the US.

He has been married three times. His second marriage was to actress Gia Carides, and they have a daughter named Bridget. He married Alexandra Henkel in 2018.

Life in Soccer

Before becoming a famous actor, Anthony LaPaglia was a goalkeeper in Australia's National Soccer League in the 1980s. He played for teams like Adelaide City and West Adelaide.

He used to be a part-owner of the Australian soccer club Sydney FC. He even flew from California to Sydney to watch their games. He also helped make a TV documentary called The Away Game, which was about Australian soccer players in Europe.

Today, he sometimes plays soccer with Hollywood United, an amateur team made up of people from the entertainment industry. He is also the president of this club.
