Anthony LaPaglia was born in Adelaide, South Australia. His mother was from the Netherlands, and his father came from Italy when he was 18. Anthony has two brothers. His younger brother, Jonathan LaPaglia, is also an actor.
When he was younger, Anthony worked as a shoe salesman. He wanted to be an actor, so he moved to the United States. There, he studied acting while still working. He had started acting classes in Adelaide when he was a teenager.
Acting Career
Anthony LaPaglia's first acting job was in a TV show called Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories in 1985. His first movie was Cold Steel in 1987. He then appeared in many films, often playing tough or serious characters.
Some of his early movie roles include Betsy's Wedding (1990), So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993), and Empire Records (1995). He also worked in Australian movies like The Custodian (1993).
Broadway and TV Success
In the late 1990s, Anthony LaPaglia became very successful on Broadway. He won a Tony Award for his role as Eddie Carbone in the play A View from the Bridge.

Life in Soccer
Before becoming a famous actor, Anthony LaPaglia was a goalkeeper in Australia's National Soccer League in the 1980s. He played for teams like Adelaide City and West Adelaide.
He used to be a part-owner of the Australian soccer club Sydney FC. He even flew from California to Sydney to watch their games. He also helped make a TV documentary called The Away Game, which was about Australian soccer players in Europe.
Today, he sometimes plays soccer with Hollywood United, an amateur team made up of people from the entertainment industry. He is also the president of this club.
