Anthony 'Tony' McGurk is a famous former Gaelic football player from Northern Ireland. He played for the Derry county team during the 1970s and 1980s. He was a very successful player, winning many important championships.
Tony McGurk also played for his local club, Erin's Own GAC Lavey. With his club, he won the biggest club championship in Ireland, the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, in 1991. He also helped his club win the Ulster Club and Derry Club Championships.
He was recognized as one of the best players in Ireland, winning two special awards called All-Stars in 1973 and 1975. He was the first player ever to win these awards while playing in different positions on the field. After his playing career, Tony McGurk became an important person behind the scenes at the Steelstown club.

About Tony McGurk
Tony McGurk was born in Lavey. He went to school at St Columb's College in Derry. After school, he studied to become a civil engineer at Queen's University Belfast.
He worked for the Road Service for several years. Later, he joined the Derry City Council. In 1992, he became the City Engineer. He then worked as Deputy Town Clerk before becoming the Town Clerk and Chief Executive in 2003. This means he was a very important leader in the city's government.
Tony McGurk comes from a family of talented Gaelic footballers. His brother, Johnny, also played for Derry. Johnny was part of the team that won the 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and also won an All-Star award. Another brother, Hugh Martin, was even the captain of the Derry team in the 1980s.
