Anthony 'Tony' McGurk is a famous former Gaelic footballer. He played for the Derry county team during the 1970s and 1980s. He helped Derry win three Ulster Championships. These wins were in 1970, 1975, and 1976.
Tony also played club football for Erin's Own GAC Lavey. With Lavey, he won the top club prize, the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship, in 1991. He also won the Ulster Club and Derry Club Championships. Tony was recognized as one of the best players. He won All-Star awards in 1973 and 1975. This made him the first player to win All-Stars in different playing positions.
Today, Tony lives in Derry City. He has been a key person behind the scenes for the Steelstown club.

About Tony McGurk
Tony McGurk was born in Lavey. He went to school at St Columb's College in Derry. After school, he studied to become a civil engineer at Queen's University Belfast.
Tony worked for the Road Service for several years. Later, he joined Derry City Council. In 1992, he became the City Engineer. He then worked as Deputy Town Clerk for three years. In 2003, he was appointed Town Clerk and Chief Executive. This meant he was in charge of running the city council.
Tony comes from a family of talented footballers. His brother Johnny also played for Derry. Johnny was part of the team that won the 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. He also won an All-Star award. Another brother, Hugh Martin, was captain of the Derry team in the 1980s.
