Anthony Vaccarello is a famous fashion designer. He was born on January 18, 1982. He is from both Belgium and Italy. Today, he is the main designer for the well-known fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent. He also used to have his own fashion brand.
Early Life and School
Anthony Vaccarello was born in Brussels, Belgium. He was the only child of his parents. His father worked with plasterboard, and his mother worked in an office.
Anthony first studied law for one year. Then, in 2000, he went to a school called La Cambre. There, he first studied sculpture. Later, he changed to studying fashion at the same school. He graduated with high honors in 2006. Two famous designers, Rei Kawakubo and Azzedine Alaïa, inspired him to switch to fashion.
His final school collection was shown at a fashion festival. This festival took place in Hyères, in the south of France. After his show, another famous designer, Karl Lagerfeld, offered him a job. This job was to design fur for the fashion house Fendi.
Anthony Vaccarello's Career
Anthony Vaccarello worked for Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi for two years. He focused on designing items made of fur. In January 2009, he moved back to Paris, France. There, he launched his own fashion line. He showed five of his designs in the window of a Paris shop called Maria Luisa.
His collection won the important ANDAM prize in 2011. A famous model named Anja Rubik wore one of his white dresses. She wore it to the 2012 Met Gala, a big fashion event. Anthony also met Lou Doillon at a dinner party. She then modeled for his lookbook, which was photographed in a parking garage.
By September 2014, Vaccarello started creating a special collection for Versus Versace. He worked for Versace for three years. First, he was a consultant, giving advice. Then, in 2015, he became the main designer for Versus. He created several collections for them.
In April 2016, it was announced that he would become the creative director of Saint Laurent Paris. This was a very important job. During his first full year at Saint Laurent, the company's earnings grew a lot. Their income increased by over 25% compared to the year before.
Personal Life
Anthony Vaccarello is good friends with the model Anja Rubik. She even walked in his fashion show in 2012.
Anthony is married to Arnaud Michaux. Arnaud also works with Anthony at the YSL design studio. In the spring of 2021, Anthony shared on Instagram that they had a child. Their child's name is Luca.
Awards and Honors
In July 2011, Anthony Vaccarello won the ANDAM Fashion Award. This award also came with a prize of €200,000.
