Anthony Youn (born 1972) is an author and a Board-certified plastic surgeon based in Troy, Michigan. He is an advocate of holistic plastic surgery and non-invasive self-care routines and practices.
Early life and education
Anthony Youn was born in Detroit in 1972 to Steve Youn and Kim Youn, who migrated to the US from South Korea. Steve grew up in a family of nine in rural South Korea, where he earned his medical degree before migrating to the United States with his wife Kim. He later relocated to Greenville, where he served as the town's ob-gyn doctor for over two decades before retiring.
Youn has a brother and sister and grew up in Greenville in West Michigan.
He studied at Greenville Senior High School and graduated in 1990, after which he attended Kalamazoo College. Youn then entered Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1998.
He completed the general and plastic surgery training at the Grand Rapids MERC Plastic Surgery Residency Program. In Los Angeles, he completed a one-year aesthetic plastic surgery fellowship with Dr. Richard Ellenbogen and returned to Michigan in 2004.
Youn met his wife Amy Elizebeth Youn (née Wolfe), a Board-certified pediatrics specialist, in medical school at Michigan State University.) He lives in Birmingham, Detroit with his wife and two children.
Career
Youn set up his own practice in Troy, Michigan in 2004. He promotes a responsible and holistic approach to plastic surgery and is a proponent of integrating practices such as dietary changes and self-care routines into daily life.
He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society, and Oakland County Medical Society. He's also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Youn is affiliated with William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Youn is also an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
Books and other published work
Youn has authored 3 books. His first book, In Stitches, was published in 2011 as a memoir focused on life growing up in a largely Caucasian community as a self-conscious and studious young Asian. The Age Fix, his second book, was released in 2016 by Orion Publishing Group and his third book, Playing God: The Evolution of a Modern Surgeon, was published by Post Hill Press in 2019.
Youn has also published work in several journals and other publications including the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
