Hylaeus anthracinus is a special kind of bee. People also call it the anthricinan yellow-faced bee. This bee lives only in Hawaii. It is found in just 16 places there. In September 2016, this bee and six other Hawaiian Hylaeus bees got special protection. The United States Endangered Species Act now protects them. This was the first time any bee in the U.S. got this kind of protection.
About the Anthricinan Yellow-Faced Bee
This bee, Hylaeus anthracinus, is a medium-sized bee. It is mostly black. Its legs are black too. The wings are almost clear, so you can see through them. Male bees have a bright yellow spot on their face. Female bees, however, are all black with no yellow spots.
