Anton Skerritt, born on January 3, 1964, is a talented athlete from Trinidad and Tobago and Canada. He was a professional sprinter and a soccer player. Anton competed in major international events like the 1984 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Olympics. He also ran in the 1987 World Championships in Athletics and the 1986 Commonwealth Games.

As a soccer player, he played in the Canadian National Soccer League and the Canadian Professional Soccer League. After his sports career, he became a vice principal at Vaughan Secondary School in Vaughan, Ontario.

Anton Skerritt's Athletics Career

Anton Skerritt started his sports journey playing soccer in college. This was at Howard University in 1982. A coach from the American national track team suggested he try track and field. This led him to switch sports.

Representing Trinidad & Tobago

Anton was chosen to represent Trinidad & Tobago. He competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics. There, he ran in the Men's 400 metres race. He also joined the Men's 4×400 metres Relay team.

Competing for Canada

In 1986, Anton began competing for Canada. He participated in the 1986 Commonwealth Games. He won a bronze medal there. This was for the 4×400 metres relay race. At the 1987 World Championships in Athletics, he set a Canadian record. He ran the 400 metres in 45.62 seconds.

Anton also competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics. He was part of the 1989 Jeux de la Francophonie. In the Francophonie Games, he won three medals. These were for the 400 metres, 4×100 metres relay, and 4×400 metres relay. He stopped competing in 1992 to focus on his education. He wanted to become a teacher.

Anton Skerritt's Soccer Career

After his athletics career, Anton returned to soccer. In 1994, he joined St. Catharines Wolves. This team played in the Canadian National Soccer League.

Playing for Different Clubs

The next year, he signed with Toronto Italia. He also played briefly for the Caribbean Stars. In 1996, he went back to St. Catharines Wolves. That year, his team won the Umbro Cup. They also reached the CNSL Championship finals. They played against Toronto Italia but lost the series.

In 1997, Anton signed with the Hamilton White Eagles. However, he was released during the season. The league suspended the team for the rest of the year.

Joining the Metro Lions

In 2002, Anton joined a new team, the Metro Lions. They were part of the Canadian Professional Soccer League. In their first season, the Lions did well. They finished third in their conference. This earned them a spot in the playoffs.

In the semi-finals, they played the Ottawa Wizards. The Lions lost the game 1-0. Anton returned for a second season with the Lions. He helped the team reach the finals of the Open Canada Cup tournament. They lost the final match to London City in a penalty shootout.
