Antoni's Early Career

Antoni Grover joined the Fremantle Football Club in 1999. He started on the "rookie list," which is like a training squad for new players. He quickly showed his skills and was moved up to the main team. Antoni made his first big game appearance in round 21 of 1999. This was against the Sydney Swans.

Becoming a Key Defender

After his debut, Antoni became a very important player for Fremantle. He played in the defence, helping to stop the other team from scoring. He was also very good at "marking" the ball. This means catching the ball after it has been kicked high in the air. In 2005, he was one of the top players in his team for catching marks.

A Special Game for Indigenous Players

In 2003, something amazing happened in a game. Antoni Grover was one of seven Indigenous players on the Fremantle team. This was the most Indigenous players ever to play together for one team in the AFL. The other players were Troy Cook, Jeff Farmer, Des Headland, Roger Hayden, Steven Koops, and Dion Woods. That day, Fremantle also scored their highest ever points in a game!

Reaching 200 Games

Antoni Grover was a very loyal player. In 2010, he signed a new contract. This allowed him to keep playing for Fremantle. He became one of only a few players to reach 200 games for the club. In 2011, he was the only "veteran" player on the team. This means he was one of the most experienced players.

A Milestone Achievement

Antoni played his 200th game in 2011. This special match was against North Melbourne. He was the fifth player from Fremantle to reach this milestone. Even more special, he was the first Indigenous player to play 200 games for the club. This was a huge achievement in his career.

Retirement from Football

Antoni Grover decided to retire from playing football in 2012. He had played a total of 202 games for the Fremantle Football Club. He left a great legacy as a strong defender and a pioneering Indigenous player.
