Antonino “Nino” Spirlì (born 13 July 1961) is an Italian politician, writer, actor, and journalist. He served as the temporary leader of the Calabria region in Italy. He took on this role after the previous president, Jole Santelli, passed away on 15 October 2020. A new election was supposed to happen quickly, but it was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

About Antonino Spirlì
Antonino Spirlì started his career in the military as a cavalry lieutenant. After that, he became an actor and a director for plays. Later, he worked as a writer for television shows.
His Work in Television
He helped create popular TV shows for major Italian networks like Mediaset and RAI. Some of these shows include La fattoria (The Farm) and Forum. He also worked on the TV drama Né con te né senza di te.
His Writing and Journalism
Mr. Spirlì is also a published author. He helped start a group called Cultura Identità, which focuses on national identity. He wrote for several newspapers and online news sites. These include il Giornale, il Giornale.it, Il Garantista, and Corriere della Calabria. He also managed a local Italian TV station called Sud.
Plans for the Strait of Messina Bridge
On 22 April 2021, Antonino Spirlì took part in an important meeting in Catania. He met with the CEO of Webuild, Pietro Salini, and the President of the Sicilian Region, Nello Musumeci. An expert on bridges, Enzo Siviero, was also there.
They announced that they were ready to start building the Strait of Messina Bridge. This bridge would connect the island of Sicily to mainland Italy. They planned to use designs that were already approved in 2013. Mr. Spirlì stated that they had enough money, about 4 billion euros, to begin the main construction. He also mentioned that they could get more money from private investors for other related projects.
