Antonio Aranda Mata (born November 13, 1888 – died February 8, 1979) was a Spanish military officer. He was known for fighting on the Nationalist side during the Spanish Civil War.

Antonio Aranda's Life and Military Career
Antonio Aranda Mata was born in Leganés, Spain, on November 13, 1888. He became a skilled engineer and geographer during the wars in Morocco. He also helped to stop a workers' strike in Asturias in 1934. Because of his actions, he was promoted to the rank of colonel.
Role in the Spanish Civil War
In 1936, when the Spanish Civil War began, Antonio Aranda was in charge of the army base in Oviedo. He quickly joined a military uprising against the government. Aranda successfully defended Oviedo from attacking groups of miners. For this important effort, he received a special award called the Cross of San Fernando. He was also promoted to the rank of General.
General Aranda took part in several other major battles during the war. These included the Battle of Teruel and the Battle of the Ebro. After the war, he became the leader of the military in the Valencia area.
After the War and Later Life
After the Spanish Civil War ended, Aranda was made the head of the Royal Geographical Society. He believed that Spain should have a king again, which was different from the government's views at the time. Because of his opinions, he was briefly put in prison for two months in 1947.
In 1949, Aranda was a division general. He was then retired from the army by Francisco Franco, who was the leader of Spain. Years later, in 1976, after Franco's death, King Juan Carlos I promoted Aranda to the rank of Lieutenant General. Antonio Aranda Mata passed away on February 8, 1979.
