Antonio Draghi (born January 17, 1634 – died January 16, 1700) was a very important composer from the Baroque period. This was a time in music history known for its grand and dramatic styles. Antonio Draghi was born in Rimini, Italy. He might have been the brother of another composer named Giovanni Battista Draghi.

Antonio Draghi was one of the busiest composers of his time. He wrote a lot of music, especially for opera. Opera is a type of play where the story is told through singing and music. Draghi's work helped shape Italian opera.

He started his music journey as a choirboy in Padua. By 1657, he was already performing on stage in an opera called La fortuna di Rodope e di Damira in Venice. His first opera that he wrote all by himself was La Mascherata, which came out in 1666.

In 1668, Draghi got a special job at the court of Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor, in Vienna. He stayed there and kept composing until he passed away.

Antonio Draghi's Operas

Antonio Draghi was incredibly productive. He wrote over 170 operas and other musical works! Many of these were for the Emperor's court in Vienna. His operas often told stories from history, myths, or even comedies. While many of his works are now lost, the sheer number of pieces he created shows how important and busy he was during his lifetime. He helped make opera a popular form of entertainment.
