Antonio Roma (born July 13, 1932 – died February 20, 2013) was a famous Argentine football player. He was a fantastic goalkeeper, best known for playing with the team Boca Juniors. People often called him Tarzan because of how bravely he would dive to save the ball!

Antonio Roma's Football Journey

Antonio Roma began his professional football career in 1955. He played for a team called Ferrocarril Oeste until 1959. During this time, he showed everyone how talented he was as a goalkeeper.

In 1960, Antonio Roma moved to Boca Juniors, a very popular football club. He joined with his teammate Silvio Marzolini. His first game for Boca Juniors was on April 3, 1960, and they won!

Roma stayed with Boca Juniors until he retired in 1972. He became one of the club's biggest heroes. He played a total of 323 matches for the team.

With Boca Juniors, Antonio Roma helped win many championships. They won the Argentine League in 1962, 1964, and 1965. They also won the Campeonato Nacional in 1969 and 1970. In 1969, he was so good that he didn't let any goals in for 783 minutes!

The Famous Penalty Save

One of Antonio Roma's most famous moments happened in 1962. Boca Juniors was playing against their big rival, River Plate. It was a very important game, and both teams were tied for first place in the league.

Boca Juniors was leading 1-0 when River Plate got a penalty kick. The player Delém from River Plate took the shot. But Antonio Roma made an amazing save! He pushed the ball away, sending it to the corner.

After this incredible save, the crowd was so excited that they ran onto the field! The game had to stop for 11 minutes. River Plate couldn't score, and Boca Juniors won the game. This helped Boca Juniors win the championship that year.

Playing for Argentina

Antonio Roma also played for his country, the Argentina national team. He was part of the team in the 1962 FIFA World Cup and the 1966 FIFA World Cup. He played 42 games for Argentina between 1956 and 1967.
