Antumi Pallas (born November 13, 1969), also known as Antumi Toasijé, is a Spanish-Colombian historian. He is a strong supporter of Pan-Africanism, a movement that encourages the unity and strength of people of African descent worldwide. Antumi Toasijé has African roots and is known for his work in history, especially African history and culture. He also studies racism and ideas about Pan-African politics.

He teaches Global History at the University of New York in Madrid. He also teaches at other universities in Spain. Antumi Toasijé is the president of the Council for the Elimination of Racial or Ethnic Discrimination (CEDRE). This council helps the Spanish Ministry of Equality with advice on these important topics.

Biography

Antumi Toasijé was born on November 13, 1969, in Bogotá, Colombia. His mother was an Afro-Colombian woman from Quibdó. Her family's African roots are from the Temne people in Sierra Leone. His father was Spanish and had left Spain because of the Francoist government.

Antumi Toasijé moved to Spain when he was two years old. He has strong connections to Equatorial Guinea and Ghana. However, he mainly lives and works in Spain. He identifies spiritually as a Buddhist.

Education and Early Work

Antumi Toasijé earned his PhD in History, Culture, and Thought from the University of Alcala in Spain. His main research was about the presence of Black people in Spain throughout history. Before his PhD, he studied at the University of the Balearic Islands. There, he earned a degree in history. He then started his doctorate at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

He has led the Center for Pan-African Studies. He was also president of the Pan-African Center. He directed a journal about migrations. He was also part of the Group of African Studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Important Contributions

Antumi Toasijé spent his early years in Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands. There, he enjoyed painting and writing poetry. In 2003, he helped start the Association of African and Pan-African Studies. This group created Nsibidi, the first Spanish-language journal about African social studies.

In 2005, he led the scientific committee for the 2nd Pan-African Congress in Spain. Later, he became involved in the movement for slavery reparations in Spain. This led to a motion being passed by the Congress of Deputies in 2009. This motion recognized the importance of the issue.

Toasijé is a well-known figure for Afrocentricity and Pan-Africanism. These ideas focus on African culture and the unity of African people. He is part of a team working with the African Union's 6th Region. This team helps connect people in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries. He also started the New Universal Calendar (NUCAL) movement.

In October 2020, the Spanish Ministry of Equality appointed Antumi Toasijé. He became the President of the Council for the Elimination of Racial or Ethnic Discrimination (CEDRE). This council advises the government on how to fight racism. In August 2024, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholar in Residence. This allowed him to work at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Toasijé has given many talks and lectures at Spanish universities. He has also co-written several books about immigration and African topics. He writes for both academic journals and popular newspapers. He works closely with other Spanish-speaking Pan-Africanists.
