Antônio Salim Curiati is a Brazilian physician and politician. He was born in Avaré, Brazil, on February 13, 1928. He is well-known for serving as the Mayor of São Paulo from May 13, 1982, to March 14, 1983.
Early Life and Education
Antônio Salim Curiati's parents were immigrants from Lebanon. He started his schooling in Avaré at the "Matilde Vieira" school. Later, he moved to the big city of São Paulo. There, he attended the Colégio Marista Arquidiocesano.
After finishing school, he went to the Escola Paulista de Medicina. This is where he trained to become a doctor. He specialized as an otolaryngologist, which is a doctor who treats problems of the ear, nose, and throat.
A Career in Politics
Antônio Salim Curiati began his political journey in 1966. He was first elected as a State Deputy for São Paulo. This means he helped make laws for the state.
Later, he became a Federal Deputy from 1987 to 1991. During this time, he took part in a very important event: the Constituent Assembly of 1988. This group helped write Brazil's first democratic constitution. This new constitution was created after a period when the military ruled the country (from 1964 to 1985).
In 2006, he was elected as a State Deputy for the eighth time. This shows how long and dedicated his career in politics has been.
Mayor and Other Important Roles
Antônio Salim Curiati served as the Mayor of São Paulo for a short period. He was mayor from May 13, 1982, to March 14, 1983. He is also a key figure in the Progressive Party (PP) in São Paulo.
