Aníbal Domingo Fernández (born January 9, 1957) is an Argentine politician. He is a Justicialist Party member, a lawyer, and an accountant. He has worked closely with former Presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. From 2021 to 2023, he was Argentina's Minister of Security. He served in this role under President Alberto Fernández.
He has held many important jobs in the government. He worked for three different presidents for over nine years in total. He was the Minister of Production, Interior Minister, and Minister of Justice. He also served as the President's Cabinet Chief. Aníbal Fernández is also the President of the Argentinian Field Hockey and Tennis Confederation.

Early Life and Education
Aníbal Fernández was born in Quilmes, Buenos Aires Province. He studied at the National University of Lomas de Zamora. He became a certified public accountant in 1982. Later, in 2001, he earned his law degree from the same university.
Career in Politics
Starting in Politics
Aníbal Fernández joined the Peronist political movement when he was young. He began working for the cities of Quilmes and Florencio Varela in 1983. He advised the Budget Committee in the Senate of Buenos Aires province. From 1985 to 1991, he worked in administration for the Peronist group in the provincial Senate. He also advised the City Councils of Quilmes and Florencio Varela.
In 1991, he was elected as the Mayor of Quilmes.
In 1994, he was chosen for the Constitutional Convention of Buenos Aires province. He led the committee that worked on the electoral system. He helped write an important part of the new Constitution for the province.
In 1995, he became a provincial senator. He was in charge of the Public Health committee. He even won an award for being the best senator in 1996. In 1997, he helped the province's Minister of Government and Justice. In 1999, he became the president of his party in Quilmes. In December 1999, he was named Secretary of Labour for the province. In 2001, he became the first Minister of Labour for Buenos Aires province.
National Government Roles
In January 2002, President Eduardo Duhalde appointed Aníbal Fernández to a national role. He became the General Secretary of the Presidency. In October 2002, he was named Minister of Production. In 2003, he was elected to the National Congress. However, he resigned when President Néstor Kirchner made him Interior Minister later that year.
He was considered a possible candidate for Governor of Buenos Aires Province in 2007. But his party, Front for Victory, chose Daniel Scioli instead. After Cristina Kirchner became President in December 2007, she appointed him as Minister of Justice, Security and Human Rights.
After the 2009 mid-term elections, Aníbal Fernández took over from Sergio Massa as the President's Cabinet Chief. He held this important job from July 8, 2009, until December 10, 2011.
In the national elections on October 23, 2011, he was elected as a National Senator. He represented the Province of Buenos Aires. He left the Cabinet on December 10, 2011, to start his role as a senator.
In 2014, Fernández showed interest in becoming president after Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. However, he decided to run for governor of Buenos Aires Province instead. He won the primary elections but lost the main election to María Eugenia Vidal.
In 2021, he was appointed Minister of Security. This happened after the government's results in the 2021 primary elections. He replaced Sabina Frederic in this role.

Personal Life
Aníbal Fernández is divorced and has a son and a daughter. He is a big fan of the Quilmes Atlético football club. He leads the Jauretche Institute, which is named after a famous Argentine activist, Arturo Jauretche.
