Early Life and Education
Apollinaire Kyélem de Tambèla was born in Burkina Faso in 1955. After finishing his early schooling in his home country, he went to France to study. In 1986, he earned his doctorate of law degree from the University of Nice. Later, he became a professor in Burkina Faso. He taught at the University of Ouagadougou and the National School of Administration and Magistrates (ENAM).
Political Journey and Ideas
While studying in France in the 1980s, Kyélem de Tambèla started a group called the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) in Nice. This group aimed to support the ideas of Thomas Sankara, a former leader of Burkina Faso. Sankara was known for his revolutionary changes in the country.
During this time, Kyélem de Tambèla also worked with student groups like the National Union of Students of France (UNEF). Before becoming a politician, he built a career as a lawyer. He also became well-known as a TV personality. People liked him because he spoke his mind and often criticized government actions.
On October 21, 2022, he was chosen to be the interim Prime Minister of Burkina Faso by interim President Ibrahim Traoré. One of his first actions as Prime Minister was to suggest lowering the salaries of the president and other ministers. This idea was similar to the reforms made by Thomas Sankara. Kyélem de Tambèla had often said he believed in Sankara's vision for Burkina Faso's development.
Serving as Prime Minister
In 2022, Kyélem de Tambèla was appointed Prime Minister of Burkina Faso by President Captain Ibrahim Traoré. This was a surprise to many, as he did not belong to a political party. Despite this, he accepted the important role.
His first official trip as Prime Minister was to Russia. He also visited Iran to meet with officials there. During his visit, he discussed ways to improve the relationship between Iran and Burkina Faso.
His second foreign visit was to neighboring Mali. Mali is also led by a military government. During this visit, he suggested that Burkina Faso and Mali could form a "federation." This would mean the two countries would work together more closely, perhaps even sharing some government functions. On December 6, 2024, he was removed from his position as Prime Minister by President Traoré.
About His Personal Life
Kyélem de Tambèla is also an author. He has written books about the culture and politics of Burkina Faso. Many people in the country know him from his time as a TV presenter. He hosted shows on the private television channel BF1 TV, such as "Press Échos" and "7 Infos." He also worked on radio stations like Rádio Liberté and Horizon FM. He is known for his strong opinions and his support for Thomas Sankara's ideas.
