Aquashicola Creek, also known as Aquanchicola Creek or Aquanshicola Creek, is a 20.8-mile-long (33.5 km) stream. It flows into the Lehigh River in the Poconos of eastern Pennsylvania, in the United States.

What's in a Name?

The name Aquashicola comes from the Lenape language. The Lenape people were Native Americans who lived in this area a long time ago. The name means "where we fish with the bushnet." This tells us that the creek was a special place for fishing for these early communities.

Where Does it Flow?

Aquashicola Creek starts in a swamp southeast of Saylorsburg. It then flows west, winding its way between two mountain ridges: Chestnut Ridge and Blue Mountain. The creek meets its biggest smaller stream, called Buckwha Creek, south of Little Gap. Finally, Aquashicola Creek joins the Lehigh River at Palmerton.
