A Look Back in Time

The First People

Long ago, the Awabakal people were the first inhabitants of this land. They are the traditional owners of the area. Their history and culture are deeply connected to this region.

How Arcadia Vale Started

Arcadia Vale was officially established in 1878. It became a planned community when it was divided into smaller blocks for homes in 1922. During a tough time called the Great Depression (a period in the 1930s when many people lost their jobs), some miners and their families moved to the waterfront. They lived in simple boatsheds. The first school in Arcadia Vale opened its doors in 1958, helping local children get an education closer to home.
