Archibald MacDonald (Scottish Gaelic: Archibald Mac Dòmhnuill) was an important leader of a Scottish clan called Clan MacDonald of Dunnyveg. He was known as the 7th Lord of Dunnyveg.
Who Was Archibald MacDonald?
Archibald MacDonald was the oldest son of Sir James MacDonald and Lady Agnes Campbell. He lived in Scotland during the 1500s.
Becoming a Clan Leader
In 1564, Mary, Queen of Scots, gave Archibald a special document called a charter. This charter gave him ownership of some lands in an area called Kintyre.
Archibald became the leader of Clan MacDonald of Dunnyveg in 1565. This happened after his father was captured during a battle and taken to Ireland.
A Brave Attempt
Archibald tried to rescue his uncle, Sorley Boy MacDonnell, who was also imprisoned. He led a raid, but it was not successful.
Archibald MacDonald is thought to have passed away around 1569. He did not have any children. After his death, his younger brother, Angus, became the next chief of Clan MacDonald of Dunnyveg.
