Archibald William Montgomerie, 14th Earl of Eglinton (born 3 December 1841 – died 30 August 1892) was an important Scottish nobleman. He was also a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the United Kingdom's Parliament.
Who Was Archibald Montgomerie?
Archibald Montgomerie was born into a very old and important family in Scotland. When his father passed away on 4 October 1861, Archibald became the 14th Earl of Eglinton. This meant he inherited his father's title and responsibilities.
He also held a special role called a Deputy Lieutenant for the areas of Lanarkshire and Ayrshire in Scotland. A Deputy Lieutenant helps the main representative of the King or Queen in a county. They often assist with local ceremonies and public duties.
His Family Life
Lord Eglinton married Lady Sophia Anderson-Pelham. She was the daughter of another important noble, the 2nd Earl of Yarborough. Archibald and Sophia had four daughters together.
Archibald Montgomerie passed away on 30 August 1892, when he was 50 years old.
