History of Arcos de Canasí

The village of Arcos de Canasí was first started in 1738. It was built near where the Canasi River meets the sea. However, the area often flooded. Because of this, the village was moved to higher ground in 1808. This new spot is where the village stands today.

Arcos de Canasí used to be its own separate area. It was part of the Matanzas Province until 1976. Then, its lands were given to the Santa Cruz del Norte area. This area was part of the La Habana Province at that time. In 2010, the La Habana Province was divided. Now, Arcos de Canasí belongs to the Mayabeque Province.
