Arenales Altos is a special area, or "barrio," located in the town of Isabela, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 4,101 people lived here. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
A Look Back in Time
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that 1,559 people lived in the Arenales Altos barrio at that time.
