Bidens aurea (also known as Arizona beggarticks) is a type of flowering plant that belongs to the daisy family. This plant is originally from North America.

You can find Bidens aurea growing widely across much of Mexico. It also grows naturally in Arizona and Guatemala. This plant has also spread and started growing in new places, like parts of Europe and South America. When a plant grows in a new area where it wasn't originally from, it is called "naturalized."

About Arizona Beggarticks

What the Plant Looks Like

Bidens aurea is an annual herb. This means it grows from a seed, flowers, produces seeds, and then dies all within one year. It can grow quite tall, sometimes reaching up to 250 centimeters (about 100 inches or 8 feet) high.

The plant produces many yellow or whitish flower heads. These "flower heads" might look like a single large flower, but they are actually made up of many tiny flowers grouped together. Each flower head has two kinds of tiny flowers:

  • Disc florets: These are the small flowers in the center of the flower head.
  • Ray florets: These are the petal-like flowers around the edge of the flower head.

Where it Grows

Bidens aurea prefers to grow in wet places. You can often find it in areas like marshes, which are wetlands, or along the banks of streams. It needs a lot of moisture to thrive.
