Armani Lee Rogers (born December 4, 1997) is an American professional football player. He plays as a tight end. Before becoming a tight end, he played college football as a quarterback. He played for the UNLV Rebels and Ohio Bobcats. Armani Rogers holds a special record for the longest run by an NCAA quarterback, which was an amazing 99 yards! After college, he changed his position to tight end. He then signed with the Washington Commanders in 2022.
Early Life and High School Football
Armani Rogers was born on December 4, 1997, in Buffalo, New York. His father, Sam Rogers, was also an NFL linebacker. Armani grew up in Los Angeles with his four brothers and one sister. He went to Alexander Hamilton High School.
High School Achievements
During his senior year of high school, Armani was a star quarterback. He threw for 1,433 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. He also showed his running skills, gaining 431 yards and scoring six rushing touchdowns. He was considered a very good player. He first planned to play college football at California. However, he later decided to play for UNLV.
College Football Career
Armani Rogers played college football for two different teams. He started at UNLV and later transferred to Ohio.
Playing for UNLV Rebels
Rogers began his college career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His first year, 2016, was a "redshirt" year. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. In 2017, his first year playing, he started nine games. He was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year. He threw for 1,471 yards and six touchdowns. He also set a school record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 780 yards and eight touchdowns.
Injuries at UNLV
In 2018, during his second year of playing, Armani got a foot injury. He missed six games but returned to finish the season. He had 601 passing yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 565 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2019, his third year, he played in four games before getting another injury.
Playing for Ohio Bobcats
Rogers transferred to Ohio as a graduate student. In 2020, he was mostly used in special plays where he could run the ball. He threw for 48 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Record-Breaking Run
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, college athletes in 2020 got an extra year to play. Armani returned to Ohio for a second season in 2021. He started two games as quarterback. He also continued to be used in special running plays. He finished the season with 334 passing yards. He also had 552 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. One of his runs was an amazing 99-yard rushing touchdown against the Buffalo Bulls. This run set a new NCAA record for a quarterback!

Professional Football Journey
Before playing in the 2022 East–West Shrine Bowl, Armani Rogers changed his position to tight end.
Time with the Washington Commanders
Rogers signed with the Washington Commanders on May 2, 2022. He joined them as an undrafted free agent, meaning he was not chosen in the NFL Draft but signed afterward. On November 19, 2022, the Commanders placed him on injured reserve. He was activated from injured reserve on January 7, 2023.
Injuries with Commanders
On May 24, 2023, Rogers unfortunately tore his Achilles tendon during practice. He was placed on injured reserve on July 25, 2023. He was released by the Commanders on August 6, 2024.
Moving to Other Teams
After leaving the Commanders, Armani Rogers continued his professional journey with other NFL teams.
Philadelphia Eagles
On August 7, 2024, the Philadelphia Eagles claimed Rogers. This means they picked him up after he was released by the Commanders. He was later waived by the Eagles on August 27, 2024.
Atlanta Falcons
On October 7, 2024, Rogers signed with the Atlanta Falcons practice squad. Practice squad players train with the team and can be moved to the main roster.
Buffalo Bills
On January 17, 2025, Rogers signed a reserve/future contract with the Buffalo Bills. This type of contract means he would join the team for the next season. On March 3, 2025, it was announced that Rogers had suffered another torn Achilles tendon while training. He had surgery for this injury. He was waived by the Bills on April 18, 2025, due to his injury.
