Armatage is a friendly neighborhood located in the southwest part of Minneapolis. It's a great place to live, with lots of homes and a community park.
This neighborhood is found in the city's southwest corner. It has clear boundaries: 54th Street West to the north, Logan Avenue South to the east, Highway 62 to the south, and the city limits at Xerxes Avenue South to the west.
Armatage is part of Ward 13. A "ward" is like a district that elects its own representative. Currently, Linea Palmisano is the Minneapolis City Council member for Ward 13. She helps make decisions for the neighborhood and the city.
The neighborhood grew up around a school. This school was named after Maude Armatage, who was an important community leader. Most of the homes here are single-family houses. There are also some buildings with multiple apartments. The neighborhood is proud to have a park with a community center for everyone to enjoy.
You can find local shops along Penn Avenue South. Most of the houses in Armatage were built between 1949 and 1969. A smaller number, about 5%, were built before World War II.
What is the Armatage Neighborhood Association?
The Armatage Neighborhood Association (ANA) started in 1991. It was part of a city-wide plan to help people connect with their city government. The ANA lets neighbors work together on local issues.
ANA board members serve for one year. Their term begins in May. The ANA also helps organize the Armatage Summer Festival. This fun party happens every August at Armatage Park.
