History of Armstrong
The land where Armstrong is today has a long history. Long ago, during colonial times, it was managed by the Society of Jesus. Later, it was owned by Spanish landowners. After that, British owners took over the land. Finally, it became part of the Central Argentine Railway company (CAR).
How the City Started
Armstrong began as a new settlement in 1882. It grew around a new train station that was built there. Many of the first people to live in the area were Italian immigrants. The city was named after Tomás Armstrong. He was an important person who helped develop the Central Argentine Railway.
Becoming a Municipality
The settlement officially became a comuna in 1886. A comuna is like a small town government. Later, on November 16, 1984, Armstrong became a full municipality. This means it became a city with its own local government.
