Arsela Peak facts for kids
Arsela Peak (which is vrah Arsela in Bulgarian) is a mountain peak in Antarctica. It stands tall at 1,600 meters (about 5,250 feet) above sea level. This peak is located near the southern part of Owen Ridge, which is a long, main ridge within the Sentinel Range. The Sentinel Range itself is part of the larger Ellsworth Mountains.
Arsela Peak has very steep slopes on its north and southwest sides. Some parts of these slopes are not covered in ice. The peak rises above the lower Nimitz Glacier to its southwest and the end of the Wessbecher Glacier to its northeast.
The peak gets its name from an ancient settlement called Arsela. This settlement belonged to the Thracians, an old civilization from what is now Southern Bulgaria.
