Owen Ridge (79°50′S 84°50′W / 79.833°S 84.833°W / -79.833; -84.833) is a very tall and rugged mountain ridge. It is about 22 nautical miles (which is about 41 kilometers or 25 miles) long. This ridge is the most southwestern part of the Sentinel Range in the Ellsworth Mountains.

Owen Ridge stretches from a place called Karnare Col towards the south-southeast. It includes several important peaks like Mount Strybing (which is 3,200 meters or 10,500 feet high), Mount Southwick, and Lishness Peak. The ridge ends at Bowers Corner.

Discovering and Naming Owen Ridge

Owen Ridge was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The USGS is a science agency of the U.S. government. They used special surveys and aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy between 1957 and 1960.

In 1974, the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) officially named the ridge. They named it after Thomas B. Owen. He was an important person at the National Science Foundation. This foundation helps fund scientific research.
