A glacier is like a very slow-moving river made of ice. The Bolgrad Glacier (which is lednik Bolgrad in Bulgarian) is one of these amazing ice rivers. It's located in the southern part of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. This glacier is quite large, stretching about 7.4 kilometers (4.6 miles) long and 5.7 kilometers (3.5 miles) wide.

It flows from mountains like Mount Allen, Mount Liptak, and Mount Southwick. As it moves, it passes south of Krusha Peak before joining another glacier called Bender Glacier.

What's in a Name?

The Bolgrad Glacier is named after the Bolhrad High School in Ukraine. This school is very important because it was a major center for Bulgarian education, first opened way back in 1858. It's cool how a school can inspire the name of a glacier in Antarctica!

Where is it?

The Bolgrad Glacier is found on the west side of Owen Ridge, which is part of the Sentinel Range. You can find it south of Brook Glacier and north of Sirma Glacier.

Its exact location is at 78°44′00″S 85°08′00″W / 78.73333°S 85.13333°W / -78.73333; -85.13333. Maps of this area were first made by the United States in 1961 and then updated in 1988.
