Mount Southwick (78°46′S 84°55′W / 78.767°S 84.917°W / -78.767; -84.917) is a tall mountain in Antarctica. It stands 3,280 meters (about 10,760 feet) high. This mountain is part of the Owen Ridge, which is near the southern end of the Sentinel Range. The Sentinel Range is a large group of mountains within the Ellsworth Mountains.

Mount Southwick is located about 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) south-southeast of another mountain called Mount Craddock. It also rises above several large ice rivers, known as glaciers. These include the Bolgrad Glacier to its northwest, the Kornicker Glacier to its east, and the Sirma Glacier to its southwest.

How Was Mount Southwick Discovered and Named?

Mount Southwick was first mapped by experts from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). They used information from surveys and air photos taken by the United States Navy between 1957 and 1959.

The mountain was given its name by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN). They named it after Tech. Sgt. Thomas E. Southwick. He was a navigator in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). On January 28, 1958, he flew on a special Navy plane (an R4D) to explore these mountains. The committee decided to name the mountain in his honor.
