Krusha Peak facts for kids
Krusha Peak (which is vrah Krusha in Bulgarian) is a very tall mountain peak. It stands about 2,800 meters (that's over 9,000 feet!) high. You can find it in Owen Ridge, which is in the southern part of the Sentinel Range. This range is part of the even bigger Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. Two glaciers are near it: Bolgrad Glacier to the southeast and Brook Glacier to the northwest.
Who is Krusha Peak Named After?
Krusha Peak gets its name from a famous Bulgarian educator. His name was Zahariy Krusha. He lived a long time ago, from 1808 to 1881. An educator is someone who teaches and helps people learn.
Where is Krusha Peak Located?
Krusha Peak is in a specific spot in Antarctica. Its exact location is 78°42′23″S 85°08′33″W / 78.70639°S 85.14250°W. This means it's very far south and west on the globe.
It is also close to several other peaks:
- About 6.94 kilometers (4.3 miles) east of Chaplin Peak (1,978 m tall).
- Around 3.87 kilometers (2.4 miles) south of Mount Strybing (3,200 m tall).
- About 2.88 kilometers (1.8 miles) west-southwest of Mount Allen (3,430 m tall).
- Roughly 4.83 kilometers (3 miles) northwest of Mount Liptak (3,100 m tall).
The first maps of this area were made by the United States in 1961. These maps were later updated in 1988.
