Art Ninja is a fun British TV show for children. It mixes art projects with a sitcom story. The show is hosted by Ricky Martin, who is super creative!
It's made by Dot to Dot Productions for CBBC. The first episode aired on January 17, 2015. In the show, Ricky and his friends Rich Thorne, Michelle Ackerley, Gavin "Gav" Strange, and Sarah Matthews make amazing art. Ricky's dad, Terry Martin, and Ella Lia Trudgeon also appear sometimes.
So far, four series with 10 episodes each have been shown. There are also shorter episodes called Nine Minute Ninja. A fifth series was ordered in 2018 and aired in 2019.
How the Show Works
Each episode of Art Ninja is like a mini-story with cool art lessons. Think of it like Art Attack or SMart, but with a funny plot!
Episode Themes and Art Projects
Every episode has a special theme, like animals or aliens. Ricky shows you how to make several small art projects you can try at home. There's usually a short animation and a tiny drawing on a Post-it Note. Ricky also makes art with a viewer over Skype. Plus, there's a small project with a character called The Grandmaster.
The show always features a "big make." This is a huge art project, often using lots of one material. For example, they might use tons of coins or cling film!
Making the Show
Art Ninja came about after Ricky Martin's first idea, Ricky's Radical Reinventions, wasn't chosen by CBBC. The production company, Dot to Dot Productions, wanted to make a new art show. CBBC's boss, Cheryl Taylor, wanted a fresh art brand.
Ricky Martin said the show aimed to be a mix of "The Naked Chef, meets art, meets Jackass." The show's first name idea was Art Monkey.
