Arthur Pearson (born January 31, 1897 – died October 14, 1980) was an important politician from the Labour Party in the United Kingdom. He was one of eight children born to William and Margaret Pearson in Saltney, Flintshire.

Early Life and Work

Arthur Pearson started working at Brown, Lennox and Co. in Pontypridd in 1913. He was a "chainworker," which meant he helped make chains. His father also worked there. Arthur stayed at this job until 1938.

During the First World War, Arthur served in the Welsh Guards from 1916 to 1919. After the war, he became very active in his community. In 1920, he was chosen as the treasurer for the local Chainworkers Association. This group helped workers.

Local Politics

Arthur Pearson was interested in helping his community through politics. In 1924, he became the secretary of the Labour group in Pontypridd. This was even before he was elected to the local council.

He became a member of the Pontypridd Urban District Council in 1926, representing the Trallwn area. He served on this council until 1938. From 1937 to 1938, he was the chairman of the council, which is like being the leader.

In 1928, he was also elected to the Glamorgan County Council for the Cilfynydd area. He stayed on this council until 1945. From 1933 to 1934, he led the Pontypridd Education Committee, helping with local schools. In 1939, he became a Justice of the Peace (JP), which means he could help with local legal matters.

Member of Parliament

In 1937, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pontypridd, David Lewis Davies, passed away. Arthur Pearson was chosen to be the new Labour candidate for the area. He won the special election in 1938 and became an MP.

Arthur Pearson served as an MP for a long time, until he retired in 1970. During his time in Parliament, he held important roles in the government. From 1945 to 1946, he was the Comptroller of the Household. From 1946 to 1951, he was the Treasurer of the Household. These roles involved helping manage the royal household and government affairs.

In 1980, Arthur Pearson was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire). This is a special honour given to people who have made a big difference in the United Kingdom.
