Arthur Westland Rees (born September 9, 1866 – died January 1, 1921) was a talented cricketer from New Zealand. He played in important matches called "first-class cricket" for teams like Auckland and Hawke's Bay. This was between the years 1889 and 1897. He made a big splash early on, taking 25 wickets in just his first two major games!

About Arthur Rees

Arthur Rees was born in Hokitika, New Zealand. His father was William Lee Rees. Arthur went to Auckland Grammar School and later studied at Caius College, Cambridge in England.

Cricket Skills

Arthur Rees was a "left-arm slow bowler." This means he bowled with his left arm and used slower, spinning balls to try and get batsmen out.

In the 1889–90 cricket season, Arthur played three matches for Auckland. He took an amazing 32 wickets in these games. A "wicket" is when a bowler gets a batsman out.
