Arthur Sissis (born June 15, 1995) is an amazing Australian rider who loves speed! He races both motorcycles and special speedway bikes. He used to be a Grand Prix motorcycle racer, which is a really big deal in the racing world. Arthur rode for the Mahindra Racing team in the Moto3 World Championship. Today, you can find him competing in the Australian Superbike Championship, riding a powerful Yamaha YZF-R1.
Arthur Sissis's Racing Journey
Arthur Sissis was born in Adelaide, South Australia. He grew up in a small town called Virginia, about 40 kilometers north of Adelaide.
Starting Young: Junior Speedway Racing
Arthur started racing motocross when he was very young. By age 9, he joined the Sidewinders Under 16 Speedway Club in Adelaide. He quickly became a champion!
- He won the Australian Under-16 Individual Speedway Championships in 2008, 2009, and 2011.
- In 2010, he came in second place in the championship, just behind another talented rider, Brady Kurtz.
Chasing Dreams: Red Bull MotoGP Rookie Cup
Arthur then set his sights on Grand Prix motorcycle racing. He joined the Red Bull MotoGP Rookie Cup series. This is a special competition for young, talented riders from all over the world.
- In 2010, he finished 13th in the championship. His best race was at Assen, where he finished 6th.
- The year 2011 was even better! Arthur won three races: one at Jerez, another at Assen, and one at Mugello.
- He finished second overall in the 2011 championship, only 9 points behind the winner, Lorenzo Baldassarri from Italy.
First Grand Prix Start
During 2011, Arthur got his first chance to race in a Grand Prix event. He rode a 125cc Aprilia bike at the Malaysian Grand Prix. He started in 30th place and finished the race in 20th.
Big Leagues: Moto3 World Championship
In 2012, Arthur joined the Red Bull KTM Ajo team to race in the new Moto3 World Championship. This championship replaced the 125cc class.
- In his very first Moto3 race in Qatar, Arthur started 9th and was in 2nd place on the first lap! He finished that race in a strong 7th place.
Making History: A Podium Finish
The most exciting moment in Arthur's Grand Prix career happened on October 28, 2012. It was at his home race in Phillip Island, Australia.
- Arthur finished in third place, earning a podium spot! This was a huge achievement.
- He raced incredibly well, staying ahead of a group of competitive riders. He secured his third-place finish by just 0.054 seconds over the fourth-place rider, Alex Rins. This was his only podium finish in Grand Prix racing.
Back to Speedway: A New Chapter
In December 2014, Arthur decided to return to speedway racing.
- He signed with the Sheffield Tigers team in the British Premier League for 2015.
- In his first race back in speedway, he finished 10th in the 2014/15 South Australian Solo Championship. This race was held at the Gillman Speedway in Adelaide.
- In May 2016, he rejoined the Sheffield Tigers team.
