Discovering Arumpo

Where is Arumpo?

Arumpo is part of the Wentworth Shire local government area. It is in the western part of New South Wales. Only about 34 people live in Arumpo, making it a very quiet and spread-out community.

Nature and History Nearby

One of the most important places near Arumpo is the Willandra Lakes Region. This area is famous for its ancient dry lakes. It is also home to Mungo National Park. This park is a special place because it shows us a lot about Australia's past. Scientists have found very old human remains and tools here. This tells us about how people lived thousands of years ago.

What Happens in Arumpo?

About 16 kilometers (10 miles) south of Arumpo, there is a mine. This mine digs up special sands that contain minerals like titanium. Titanium is a strong, light metal used in many things, from airplanes to sports equipment. The sand from the mine is loaded onto trucks. These trucks then take the sand to freight trains in a town called Ivanhoe, New South Wales. The trains then carry the minerals to other places for processing.
