Arweet facts for kids
Arweet or Ngarweet is a very important leadership role for the Boonwurrung and Wathaurong peoples. These are two of the many Indigenous Australian groups who have lived on this land for thousands of years.
The Arweet is like a respected leader or headman. This role is similar to a ngurungaeta among the Wurundjeri people. The Boonwurrung and Wathaurong peoples are part of a larger group called the Kulin alliance. They traditionally live in an area that stretches from Western Port and Port Phillip (where Melbourne is today) all the way to Geelong and Ballarat.
