Ash Creek is a stream in northeastern California. It is about 35 miles (56 km) long. The creek flows through Lassen County and Modoc County. It is located east of the Cascade Range mountains. The land around the creek has volcanic hills and farms.

Where Does Ash Creek Flow?

Ash Creek starts from several springs. These springs are in Ash Valley. This valley is part of the Modoc National Forest. The creek flows northwest through a canyon. It passes the Ash Creek Campground. Then it enters Modoc County.

Journey Through Valleys

The creek flows into Round Valley. Here, it turns southwest. At Adin, Highway 299 crosses the creek. Ash Creek then goes through a gap in the hills. It enters a larger area called Big Valley. Here, it flows west. This path is close to the border between Modoc and Lassen counties.

Where Ash Creek Ends

Near its end, Ash Creek feeds a large wetland area. This area is known as Big Swamp. It is part of the Ash Creek State Wildlife Area. The creek then joins the Pit River. This meeting point is on the western side of Big Swamp. It is about 2 miles (3 km) north of Bieber.

Why Is Ash Creek Special?

Ash Creek flows all year round. This is special because it is in a dry, semi-desert region. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says Ash Creek is very natural. They call it one of the "most pristine" wildlife areas in California.

Home for Wildlife

The creek has about 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) of wetlands. These wetlands are a home for many animals. You can find different types of mammals here. Many waterfowl and birds of prey also live in this area.

Fishing Fun

The upper part of Ash Creek is in the Modoc National Forest. Fish are added to this part of the creek every year. This makes it a great place for fishing.
