Ashaway River facts for kids
The Ashaway River is a small river in the U.S. states of Rhode Island and Connecticut. It flows for about 4 kilometers (2 miles). You can find three dams along this river.
Where the River Starts and Flows
The Ashaway River begins in a town called Hopkinton, Rhode Island. It forms where two smaller streams, Parmenter Brook and the Green Fall River, meet. This spot is very close to Interstate 95 and the border with Connecticut.
From its start, the river flows generally south. It briefly enters North Stonington, Connecticut, for a short distance. Then, it turns and flows back into Rhode Island. The river continues through Hopkinton until it reaches its end at the Pawcatuck River.
Bridges Over the River
Many roads and highways cross over the Ashaway River. Here is a list of the main crossings, starting from where the river begins and moving downstream:
- In Hopkinton:
- Interstate 95
- Wellstown Road

Smaller Streams Joining the River
The Ashaway River does not have any large, named streams that flow into it. However, many smaller, unnamed streams and trickles of water feed into the river along its path. These smaller streams help keep the river flowing.
