Ashton is a small town located in the beautiful Adelaide Hills in South Australia. It was named in 1858 by George Hunt. He named it after his home town, Ashton, in England. The name "Ashton" comes from an old English word, aesctun. This means "ash tree town".

Ashton has a few important places for its community. The Ashton Community Post Office is open on weekdays. It helps residents send mail and packages.
Sports and Community Fun
The Ashton oval is a popular spot for sports. It used to be home to the Eastern Rangers Football Club. This club played Australian rules football. In 1997, it joined with the Uraidla Football Club.
Today, the oval is still very active. It is home to the Eastern Ranges Cricket Club. You can also find the Rangers Junior Soccer club here. The grounds are used for Scout meetings and other events. Facilities include a football/cricket oval, practice nets, and tennis courts. There are also changing rooms, toilets, a bar, kitchen, and club rooms.
Ashton Community Memorial Hall
The Ashton Community Memorial Hall is right in the town's center. People can rent it for public or private events. It has a full kitchen and a large hall with wooden floors. There are also canteen windows, toilets, and a car park.

What Ashton Grows: Local Produce
Ashton is well-known for its fruit orchards. Growing fruit has been a big part of the town's history. Each year, farmers grow many different fruits. These include cherries, apples, lemons, and pears. They also grow various other fruits and vegetables.
Ashton used to have large cold storage facilities for produce. These helped keep fruit fresh for longer. Today, it's easier to transport goods. Also, Ashton is close to Adelaide. So, these storage facilities are not used as much now.
How to Get to Ashton
Ashton is about 20 minutes away from the Adelaide City Centre. It is about 17 kilometers (11 miles) east of the city. The easiest way to get there is by following a main road. This road changes names but stays the same path. It goes from North Terrace to Magill Road. Then it becomes Old Norton Summit Road and finally Lobethal Road.
Eastern Rangers Football Club History
The Eastern Rangers Football Club was formed when two clubs merged. These were the Lenswood Rangers Football Club and the Ashton Football Club. The team was known as the "Saints". They played in the Hills Football League.
Later, the club merged again with the Uraidla Football Club. This created the Uraidla Districts Football Club. The Eastern Rangers had a successful season in 1987. They won the premiership in the Hills Football League's First Division. The new Uraidla Districts club also won a premiership in 2005.
