Aslam Farrukhi (Urdu: اسلم فرخی) (born October 23, 1923 – died June 15, 2016) was a famous writer from Pakistan. He wrote many books in the Urdu language. He was also a literary critic, which means he reviewed and analyzed other people's writings. Aslam Farrukhi was also known for writing wonderful books for children. He taught at the University of Karachi for a long time, leading the Urdu Department.

Early Life of Aslam Farrukhi
Aslam Farrukhi was born on October 23, 1923, in Lucknow, which was then part of British India. His family was full of writers and poets. Many of his relatives were known for their creative writing.
His family's name, Farrukhi, came from the town of Farrukhabad. After Pakistan became an independent country in 1947, Aslam Farrukhi and his family moved to Karachi, Pakistan.
Education and Studies
Aslam Farrukhi studied at the Federal Urdu College, which is now called Federal Urdu University. He also went to the University of Karachi. He earned his PhD degree by writing about a famous 19th-century writer named Muhammad Husain Azad. This work was so good that it won him the Adamjee Literary Award in 1965.
Aslam Farrukhi's Career
Aslam Farrukhi started his career at Radio Pakistan. He wrote scripts for radio plays, which are like stories told through sound. Later, he became a teacher. He taught at Sindh Muslim College, now known as Sindh Madressatul Islam University. He also taught at Karachi University. At Karachi University, he even worked as a registrar, helping with official university records.
His son, Asif Farrukhi, also became a scholar. Asif Farrukhi helped start the Karachi Literature Festival. Aslam Farrukhi worked as a professor and later became the chairman of the Urdu Department at the University of Karachi. He also worked at Radio Pakistan for over six years. He was one of the few writers in Pakistan who wrote books especially for children.
Awards and Special Recognition
Aslam Farrukhi received important awards for his work:
- The Pride of Performance Award from the President of Pakistan in 2009. This is a very high honor in Pakistan.
- The Adamjee Literary Award in 1965. He won this for his PhD thesis.
