- Exactly one year later, on December 8, 1917, another tornado struck. It damaged churches, homes, and businesses. One child died, and two other people were injured. Both of these tornadoes were very strong.

Students in Atlanta attend schools that are part of the Winn Parish School Board district. They go to schools in Winnfield, which include Winnfield Primary School, Winnfield Middle School, and Winnfield Senior High School.
Atlanta used to have its own school, Atlanta High School, which taught students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. However, in July 2023, the school board decided to close Atlanta High School. The main reason for this decision was that it had the smallest number of students compared to other schools in the district. After the school closed, students from Atlanta were sent to schools in Winnfield.
The Winn Parish Library also has a branch located in Atlanta, called the Atlanta Library Branch.
