Atlantic City is a small community in Fremont County, Wyoming, United States. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a special area counted by the government for population. In 2010, only 37 people lived here!
This tiny town is a historic mining settlement. It's located in a valley near South Pass, a famous mountain pass in Wyoming. Atlantic City was started in 1868 after people found gold in the area. The name "Atlantic" comes from its location on the eastern side of the Continental Divide. This is a line that separates rivers flowing to the Atlantic Ocean from those flowing to the Pacific.
Even though the big gold rush ended in the 1870s, Atlantic City kept going. New ways to mine helped people find more gold. From the 1960s to 1983, a company called US Steel even had a large iron ore mine here. Today, you can reach the town by gravel roads from Wyoming Highway 28.
Atlantic City still has a rustic, old-time feel. You'll find a few homes and the old Atlantic City Mercantile store, which is now a restaurant. In the summer, some tourists visit to see this unique piece of history.
