Atlantic Superstore is a popular Canadian grocery store chain. You can find 54 of these stores across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. It's part of a bigger company called Loblaw Companies Limited.
These stores are quite large, from about 45,000 to over 120,000 square feet. That's like having a really big playground inside!
What Can You Find at Atlantic Superstore?
Even though it sounds like "Real Canadian Superstore," not all Atlantic Superstores are huge "hypermarkets" (stores that sell almost everything). Many are just big grocery stores. But some are "one-stop shops" where you can buy groceries, electronics, home goods, clothes, and even get photos developed or visit a pharmacy.
The really big stores (60,000 to over 80,000 square feet) might also have a community room, a drive-through pharmacy, a gas station, or even a walk-in medical clinic.

Some Atlantic Superstore locations have self-checkout machines. These let you scan your own items and pay without needing help from a store employee.
In 2009, some stores started charging 5 cents for plastic bags. This was to encourage people to use reusable bags. They stopped this practice in 2010. However, at least one store later became "bagless." This means they stopped offering plastic bags completely. Customers had to bring their own bags or buy reusable ones at the store.
In December 2017, Atlantic Superstore started offering "click and collect" services. This is called PC Express. You can order your groceries online and then pick them up at the store. This started in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
How Atlantic Superstore Started
Loblaw Companies first came to Atlantic Canada in 1976. They bought a company called Atlantic Wholesalers, which owned the SaveEasy chain of stores.
In 1986, the very first large grocery store opened in Moncton, New Brunswick. It was called The Real Atlantic Superstore. In 1995, the name was shortened to just "Atlantic Superstore." Many SaveEasy stores were later changed into the Superstore format.
During the 1990s, the company's main office moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. New warehouses were built to help deliver products to stores faster. Many new, large stores were also built across the region.
In the early 2000s, Atlantic Superstore used the slogan "Eat Well, Spend Less." Later, they used "Prices You Can Trust." Since 2009, their slogan has been "Just Lower Prices."
Some Atlantic Superstore locations might even be changed into No Frills stores. This depends on the people who live in that area.
