SaveEasy was a group of small grocery stores in Atlantic Canada. These stores were like a big family of shops, called a chain, and were owned by Loblaw Companies. You could find SaveEasy stores in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

The first SaveEasy store opened its doors in 1959. It quickly grew and became the second-biggest grocery chain in the Atlantic region. This was a big deal, as it was right behind another well-known store, Sobeys.

How SaveEasy Stores Started

SaveEasy was first owned by a company called Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd. They were based in Sackville, New Brunswick. In 1976, Loblaw Companies bought Atlantic Wholesalers. This meant SaveEasy became part of the Loblaw family.

Changes and New Brands

During the early 1980s, the economy was a bit tough. SaveEasy stores started selling Loblaw's own brands, like No Name products. These were often cheaper options for shoppers. The SaveEasy logo was also updated to look more like the main Loblaws logo.

Some SaveEasy stores changed from being owned by local people (franchises) to being directly owned by Loblaw. These stores sometimes changed their name to "No Frills". There were also some bigger SaveEasy stores called SaveEasy Warehouse Foods. These were often found inside shopping malls. Most SaveEasy stores, however, were stand-alone shops.

Where SaveEasy Stores Were Found

Over time, many SaveEasy stores in bigger cities either closed or changed into larger stores. These new stores were called Atlantic SuperValu or the even bigger Atlantic Superstore. The SaveEasy name then mostly stayed in smaller towns and country areas. The Atlantic SuperValu brand eventually disappeared as Loblaw wanted to use fewer different store names.

SaveEasy's Look and Slogan

Around 2008, SaveEasy stores started to look very similar to Quebec's Provigo stores. Provigo is another chain owned by Loblaw. For example, the "P" in the Provigo logo was changed to an "S" for SaveEasy. SaveEasy's slogan, "So quick, so good!", was a direct translation of Provigo's "Si vite, si bon!".

The End of SaveEasy

On November 4, 2014, Loblaw announced that the SaveEasy name would be replaced. The stores would become part of the Your Independent Grocer brand. This brand was already used in other parts of Canada. The change was finished by 2016.
