Atsuhiko Mori's Football Journey
Atsuhiko Mori was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, on May 31, 1972. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career. He joined a team called All Nippon Airways in 1991. This team later changed its name to Yokohama Flügels.
Playing for Yokohama Flügels (1991–1997)
When the J League started in 1993, Mori became the main goalkeeper for Yokohama Flügels. He was easy to spot because of his unique dreadlocked hair. Fans even gave him the nickname "Reggae-kun" because of this.
During the first J League season in 1993, Mori helped his team a lot. He prevented the other team from scoring in 5 games. The Flügels finished 6th in the league that year. They also made it to the semi-finals of the J.League Cup.
One of Mori's biggest achievements was winning the 1993 Emperor's Cup with Yokohama Flügels. He also helped them win the 1994–95 Asian Cup Winners' Cup. His great performances even led to talks about him joining the national team.
However, in August 1995, something unfortunate happened during a game. Mori had a disagreement with the referee and was sent off the field. This led to him being temporarily suspended from playing. During this time, a new goalkeeper, Seigo Narazaki, took his place. Narazaki then became the team's preferred number one goalkeeper.
Time with Consadole Sapporo (1997)
Mori returned to the team briefly in the 1996-97 season. But he could not get his starting position back. In April 1997, he moved to a different team, Consadole Sapporo. This team played in the Japan Football League.
At Consadole Sapporo, Mori played only 5 games. He was not able to become the main goalkeeper over Dido Havenaar. After that season, at the age of 25, Atsuhiko Mori decided to retire from professional football.
Life After Football
After retiring from football, Atsuhiko Mori explored other interests. He was a big fan of reggae music and Jamaican culture from the early 1990s. He especially liked Bob Marley and The Wailers. This passion was clear when he wore dreadlocks during his playing days.
Mori later opened a bar in Tokyo called "Rock Steady." He often works there as a DJ. He plays different types of music, including reggae, ska, funk, rock-a-billy, and blues.
In 2005, Mori also started a fashion brand. He co-founded "Wacko Maria" with another former professional footballer, Keiji Ishizuka.
