Playing for Yokohama Flügels (1991–1997)
Atsuhiko Mori was born in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, on May 31, 1972. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called All Nippon Airways in 1991. This club later changed its name to Yokohama Flügels.
In 1993, the Flügels became one of the first teams in the J League. Mori was the main goalkeeper for the team. Fans recognized him for his unique dreadlocked hair and even nicknamed him "Reggae-kun."
During the first J League season in 1993, Mori helped his team by not letting the other team score in 5 games. The Flügels finished 6th in the league and reached the semi-finals of the J.League Cup. They also won the 1993 Emperor's Cup and the 1994–95 Asian Cup Winners' Cup.
Mori's great playing made people think he might join the Japan national football team. However, his career faced a challenge on August 12, 1995. During a game, he showed his frustration towards the referee and was sent off the field. He received a three-month suspension. While he was suspended, a new goalkeeper named Seigo Narazaki took his place and became the team's preferred number one.
Playing for Consadole Sapporo (1997)
Mori returned to the team briefly in the 1996-97 season. But he could not get his starting position back. In April 1997, he moved to another club, Consadole Sapporo, which was in the Japan Football League.
At Consadole Sapporo, Mori played only 5 games. He was not able to become the main goalkeeper over Dido Havenaar. After that season, at the age of 25, Mori decided to retire from playing professional football.
