The Attenborougharion rubicundus is a special type of semi-slug. It's a land animal that breathes air, belonging to a group called gastropods. Gastropods are a kind of mollusc, like snails and slugs.
This creature is sometimes called the "burgundy snail." However, it's important not to confuse it with another snail, Helix pomatia, which also goes by that name.

About the Attenborougharion Rubicundus
This section will help you learn more about this interesting semi-slug.
What is a Semi-Slug?
A semi-slug is an animal that looks like a mix between a snail and a slug. It has a small shell, but it's often too small for the animal to fully pull its body inside. This means part of its body is always outside the shell.
Naming and Classification
This semi-slug was first described in 1978 and was known as Helicarion rubicundus. Later, in 2017, scientists at the Australian Museum decided it was unique enough to have its own special group, called a monotypic genus. They named this new genus Attenborougharion after the famous naturalist, David Attenborough. This new name was officially announced on August 9, 2017.
Where Does It Live?
The Attenborougharion rubicundus is an endemic species. This means it lives only in one specific place in the world. For this semi-slug, that place is Australia. You can find it only on the Forestier Peninsula and a small part of the Tasman Peninsula, both located on the island of Tasmania.
What Does It Look Like?
These semi-slugs are quite colorful! They can be bright green and bright red. They are also a good size, measuring about 27.5 to 45 millimeters long. That's roughly the length of a small paperclip to a large button.
